Documents of Latin American and Latino Art

In 2001, the MFAH (Museum of Fine Arts, Houston), established the Department of Latin American Art and its research support, the ICAA (International Center for the Arts of the Americas). Since its founding, the purpose of the ICAA has been to engage in the collection, exhibition, research and even the education of a public around the diversity of artistic production in two enclaves, both continental and Latino/Latinx in the United States. . This includes—in addition to Mexico, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean and the United States—artists of Latin American descent who live and/or work in American territory. By establishing the Center, the Museum sought to effect a long-term transformation in the appreciation and understanding of both Latino and Latin American fine arts in the United States and other countries.
